I do like IA 612 class since I learned a lot of very useful Security tools: Nmap, Scapy, Ettercap, Snort, Bro, Honeyd, etc. Also, we learned how to build a IDS. I have CS background of course.

I would prefer IA 606 and IA 612 to be elective courses for MSIA major.

Planned the course map according to requirements and took extra courses as 606 and 612 were electives now changing them to mandatory after completing 90% of courses required for graduation will be additional burden and time consuming as 606 is prerequisite for 612

As we were told by the chair person i.e 606 and 612 will be considered as electives and we have played our course work keeping in mind that they were electives.
I would consider them as Electives only.

It was elective before I got enrolled and has to be elective till I graduate

I would prefer IA 606 and IA 612 to be considered as electives rather than core courses.

The MSIA program needs to start putting the needs of students first in its decision-making process, with this 606/612 issue highlighting the dysfunction.
The excuses and apologies students heard at the dept meeting last week for continued incompetence are unacceptable.
I request this petition be promptly escalated to the Dean for high priority action.

These courses put unnecessary pressure on students coming from a non-IT background. If these courses are enforced upon those students, program should specify the need for pre-requisites when coming into the program, allowing students to take an informed decision about the program at admission. Changing these courses from core to non-core, to core again within the last year has not helped students in planning for the completion of the program.

As valid and and necessary as these courses are for network security and the major I think that there either needs to be more more requisites to these courses or they should be taught at a more introductory level. Either that, or there needs to be more support for people who are coming from a different background,

IA606 and IA612 need to be elective. If college don't want to make it elective, please than don't take admission of student who are from other academic fields. OR, completely change the syllabus of both subject and make new teacher to teach it who are from IA department not computer science teacher.
