Obviously, a sixteen percent increase in housing units from one development is reckless. But it will make the developer rich, a glaring incentive to buy council votes. Hopewell Borough is one of the few towns in NJ that retains small-town charm and abundant open space. The absence of mass development underpins our property values and our community values. The water-sewer system and emergency responders are at capacity or approaching it. Town council (with the exception of Ms. Wilenius) ignored their entire constituency when they voted for this project. Why? Meanwhile, we can’t even get the speed limit posted on Railroad Place, let alone enforced. As a result my young autistic son lives on a commuter racetrack. The new development is just around the corner from us. It will add hundreds of cars to the daily traffic on Railroad Place, which is already dangerous.

The Kooltronics building needs to a full realized ratable once more, but the number of units proposed is too large. It will significantly increase traffic in the borough. Residents were focused on whether or not to sell the waterworks, and this issue slipped in unnoticed. The citizens need time to weigh in. Let's make a wise decision, not a hasty one. Also, the best statesman this borough ever had told me many times: Follow the money. That is an apt warning.

While I appreciate that we want more tax ratable properties in town, this seems like entirely too many for such a small space, and the Borough Council has in no way done sufficient homework to pass this proposal as it is. This absolutely should be given greater coverage and opportunity provided for residents to weigh in. The way this was passed through makes me wonder who stands to gain from the development.

Do not allow this to destroy the integrity and solitude of this Boro! Living on Lafayette St. since 2006 and has always been the quietest street in the Boro.

Parking is a problem in that area already. It’s a small town Borough to put something so large there.

Density way, way too much for this small, quiet residential section of the Borough. Plus the ground contamination from Kooltronic and dangerous flood zone status make this site unacceptable for a housing development.
