Unbelievable. A few months ago three candidates for Heber City Council, Jeff Bradshaw, Ronald Crittenden, and Jeff Smith all were asked by citizens during a meet the candidates night if they were for an airport expansion. All three of these Councilmen stated they were NOT in favor of the airport expansion. We will all see if the integrity of these three men is worth anything and if they can be trusted to keep their word. I understand the purchase of this property is for 1.5 million dollars. Our tax dollars. Now if I remember correctly, as stated in the Mayors letter and discussions with city officials, local firefighters, that Heber City has issues with their infrastructure. Let me be specific. Much of the older part of the city doesn't meet fire code on water supply, that some of the mains may fail if used to fight a structure fire. That there are not enough hydrants as required by fire code. That many of the residents do not have pressurized irrigation in the older part of the city, as was stated by a concerned resident during the meet the candidates night. Much of the city will require updates to sewer and water mains. Much of the older part of the city lacks sidewalks, curbs, gutters and lighting. Older residents and children must walk in the road to attend church, go to school or just enjoy a walk around the block. This lack of accountability to the tax payers has gone on far enough. Our fire dept, although not a city dept lacks adequate fire apparatus, pumpers and ladder trucks that can reach the upper levels of the high rise building. The fire chief asked for more money to buy apparatus a few years ago and still no new engines. 1.5 million would buy two new engines or a ladder truck with change to spare. In fact there is no apparatus at the airport or in the fire department inventory that could adequately fight an aircraft fire in the event of a crash or incident on the tarmac. The city could use this 1.5 million to pay for these basic city needs, and yet

This proposal should have been DOA. It will end up another federal requirement that will cost the people of the valley more money and tie us more tightly to the Federal Government.

It would be a shame to have this thrust upon us as Heber residents. There are already pretty large planes landing here. We don't need commuter jets. The extra traffic going through town on their way to Park City does not in my mind justify the consequences of noise,pollution, and traffic. I know they pay to land here, but that's not enough.
It should be put to the residents of the valley...we will live here and suffer these consequences long after those who might make the decision will be in office.

Heber City is already (Feb 8, 2016) in process of purchasing Maverick property due to runway protection zone. They are at this time proposing a request to FAA for reimbursement. Every time we take FAA $ we are then subject to FAA control for another 20 years. This is a horror story getting ready to happen here in Heber valley. The expansion / upgrade is NOT in the interest of the greater good of Heber Valley. It is merely a convenience for a few, most of whom are not local residents. Remember, there is an airport in Provo that can service the private jets or Salt Lake City and it is not unreasonable for the travelers to use those facilities. Currently the Heber Airport is just the right size for the current and future residents here in this valley.
Let's not undervalue the worth of a small town and the need to protect it.
P.S. Why isn't Park City building one in Summit County?

The valley is too small to accommodate a large airport & is locked in with surrounding mountains and will create terrible air quality. Please don't expand!

When they first expanded the airport, they said no planes would fly over the new high school or our house and that was a lie, they do this many times a day.

We recently moved from Park City after being born and raised there. The biggest reason was to get back to the rural feeling/setting. These continued changes(call it what it is Airport Expansion). Opposing for all the same reasons already stated. Remember the Aquatics Center! It got voted down only to appear in a school bond. Is this what will happen with the Airport. Seems as though the needs of the few outweigh the wishes of the many.

I am a resident of Wheeler Park and hate the thought of larger, louder jets flying over our city. I do not see how this really benefits the residents of Heber City as much as Park City or Deer Valley. No thanks!!

Let's not burden our high school students and teachers more than they are already burdened due to the school's location so close to the airport. WHS is our only high school. Wasatch County kids deserve better than this so-called "upgrade."
