In late February 2016 Mrs. Debbie Haynes, 6th grade teacher at Sycamore Elementary in Upland, CA was put on administrative leave for reasons that are still unclear. We want an immediate reinstatement of Mrs. Haynes as our children's full time teacher.

Parents have witnessed for the last 4 weeks our children being taught less and less, having little to no homework, not understanding key concepts being taught, or being subjected to be in a class that has a lack on control. Various substitutes have rotated throughout this time, leaving the students without consistency and in a state of flux. Parents and students have been repeatedly told that she would return the following week, only to find that again they have a new substitute. Many of us are concerned for upcoming Jr. High counseling sessions and have not had any notification from the school on what is to be expected or when it is happening. There are many things falling through the cracks - and repeated attempts to get clear answers from the principal have failed.

Mrs. Haynes was a great teacher and had a close connection to our children and personal interest in their futures and success. She is a compassionate, engaging and caring teacher. What has been done to her is unfair and we want to be clear that we feel immediate reinstatement is needed.

Updates

April 3, 2016

The response to this campaign has been overwhelming and humbling. It is clear that we are not the only ones feeling this exhaustion from the lack of transparency at the school. We will keep pushing because the students deserve better than this uncertainty.

She has been the best teacher I have ever known. She teaches with passion and helped us with what we were struggling with. A couple of my friends used to get d's and now have gone up to c's and b's. The subs are super confusing and now we dont understand. All our grades are going down. I made a motto it is Haynes (Awesome Teacher) Her Humor (Best Physical Feature) Me and my classmates wish that everything would go back to the way it was.

My son Jackson Wilkison over dinner on many occasions has cried and expressed his emotions on missing mrs Haynes how she knows his needs and what he needs help with and it has shown in his demeanor at home and at school, as a parent we need mrs Haynes to return for wellbeing of her class..... Thank you Gerald Wilkison

Mrs. Haynes cares more for these kids over the years than any teacher that I have had. She will spend personal time and $$$ to help her students get food clothes and other supplies to help them become the best person they can be in life. She is not just a 6th grade teacher but a life time teacher

Former teacher of mine, Mrs. Haynes has been put on unjustified leave and we want her back. She taught her students passionately and cared deeply of the success and well being of not only her own class but the others as well. Mrs. Haynes, after being employed for so many years, has earned her right to stay and keep her job without suspension. I don't have the whole story nor was I there, but from what I've heard and how well I know her, I don't see how punishable she was. People make mistakes and regardless what is was, if hardly anyone knows what happened, it couldn't have been worth all of the struggle we're putting her through. I know that Mrs. Haynes's intentions would never be to hurt a kid. Therefore knowing what is provided and knowing Mrs. Haynes on a classroom and somewhat personal level, the fight to keep her shouldn't even be being discussed; it is evident that there is no viable evidence to what happened and having had Mrs. Haynes employed for so long and recognizing the fact that she hasn't had problems in the past, this entire situation can easily be avoided by doing the right and just thing and allowing her to return to her second home, Sycamore Elementary.

Mrs. Haynes is such an inspiring teacher who has touched the lives of countless number of individuals. Our district is such a disgrace who prioritizes self-interest over the best interest of the students. Regardless of the reason for "administrative leave", I and so many others demand Mrs. Haynes to return back to the classroom educating generations to come!
