I don't know the girls who wrote this, but I have to say I am beyond proud of you ladies. I remember all of this happening throughout my time at Highland, but I just ignored it because I wasn't athletic at all. There are no words to describe how happy I am that you are standing up for yourselves at this school and fighting for equality. You go girls!

I am stunned that this type of discrimination is taking place in 2016!

Proud of authors Kate and Abby and all who support this petition. It's not always easy to stand up for what is right. Thank you for shining a light on this. There is no place for gender inequity in our schools.

Way to go girls! I'm so proud of you for bringing attention to an important issue in such a mature and eloquent way! Unfortunately, I still see behavior like this even in high school. We need strong girls like you to speak up! If you need anything, I run a women's rights club at LHS. Feel free to contact me anytime!

I am an alumni of Highland Middle School and am sad to see nothing has changed since I went there in the early 80s. I am amazed an inspired by the clearly argued points made by the girls. Shame on the administration for belittling the girls request when they should be celebrating their activism!

I go to highland middle school and I want the boys and girls to be equal because I see that sometimes the girls do not get treated equal

I'm a 7th grade boy who goes to Highland, and I guess I never really thought about it until now. It really angers me that we don't get same treatment. I definitely know girls who are smarter and/or better then me at any sport you can name. We deserve the same equipment AND treatment!

Didn't realize this was happening; my 7th grade HMS boy confirmed this is true....

My children go to a school that allows floor hockey to be played as a mixed activity. I grew up playing floor hockey as a mixed activity in the late 70's and early 80's. If we are teaching the children of today that girls (young ladies) can't physically cut it at this type of activity, then what are we teaching them. Not only should the girls be given equal time and space....I think that floor hockey and other sports should be mixed. Two hand touch football might lead to some trouble establishing limits, but basketball and others shouldn't. I have known plenty of women college basketball players who can hold their own with the boys (men).

Take the opportunity to read, and to listen and more importantly act on this. I'd like to understand how the school will be more proactive and how the girls concerns will be addressed. I'm proud to know them and appreciate their leadership and courage.

Girls should have equal quality equipment, play spaces & play time as the boys.

The only place where gender needs to be separated in sports is in the changing room! That's the one and only place! Warm regards from the Netherlands beautiful Libertyville! We miss you
