Permanent Govee Pro - Holiday Lights at Bronk Farm
WHO ARE WE?: We are a group of owner residents living in the Bronk Farm community in Plainfield, IL who have at considerable expense professionally installed permanent holiday lighting manufactured by Govee Pro.
WHY? We installed these lights because they are technologically advanced, environmentally friendly, safe, generate almost no heat and last 50,000 hours and would never need to be replaced for the forseeable future. These lights are also cost effective for those who would like to decorate their homes with holiday lights every year. These lights sit flush with the roof eaves and are discreet and can be left in place. At that time, many of us were unaware that the installation needed an ARC form to be filled out.
CHRONOLOGY
1) We filled out ARC forms and submitted to the board. The installations were denied but the board generously allowed us to keep the installations on under the condition that they be turned on only during the holiday season. We were also specifically informed that we could keep the lights on during the week of the Indian festival of Diwali. Here is where the communication from the community manager was inconsistent, where some were informed by phone and yet some others by mail.
2) This process was not socialized properly by the community management and assuming it was ok, soon other homes started installing these lights and started turning them on before the holidays and after Diwali which is the major issue under consideration.
3) It is these violations plus complaints from residents about the lights themselves that have now made the board ask us to strip all our Govee permanent light installations just before the holidays. We assume the residents complaints are only valid because the lights were lit up outside the holiday timeline. But it seems that there is an issue with the lights themselves.
We have purchased and professionally installed these lights at considerable expense. The intent was not to break rules and disturb others. The lights themselves shine downwards and cast a triangular shadow that make them look beautiful and aesthetic and are in no was more intensive than the regular string lights.
WHAT IS OUR REQUEST?:
1) We request that the order to strip all the permanent light installations be revoked to save the owners expense and that too right before the holidays. Besides it is the holiday season now and the lights can be used to make the community beautiful.
2) We request that the board in collaboration with the community manager specify the exact on off dates for turning on lights for holiday lighting. There was significant inconsistency in the communication of this by the community manager. The end result was total confusion. But the homes that were originally given permission obeyed all the rules and DID NOT TURN THEIR LIGHTS ON. We commit to abide by the dates in the future and any home that violates this can be fined, as it should be. Unintentional lighting outside of holiday season/ during the day time should be acted by first a warning and then a fine
3) We request clear and consistent communication from the community management with respect to these conditions in the future. We would like to eliminate all confusion so all of can obey laws
4) There is no legal law in place in the township that prevent Govee lights being used for holiday lighting. Thousands of homes in neighboring communities and towns have them and their subdivisions look beautiful and festive. We are NOT BREAKING ANY LAW.
PROPOSAL:
1) Roll back current order to previous order where the installations were denied but were allowed to remain in place. The community manager should have the specific list of those homes
2) Request permit new installations have an ARC form filled out and denied but to let them be in place
3) STRICT CONDITION TO ONLY USE LIGHTS DURING COMMUNITY SPECIFIED HOLIDAY DATES. This is our responsibility as residents to own. This is an individual responsibility and violation can attract fines as per the community guidelines
We are honest hard working residents of this lovely community asking to beautify our homes during holiday season. Agree that due to some confusion there was non compliance but we request we be given one last chance to fix this and be 100% compliant.
4) Community manager to socialize the process for ARC as a reminder esp for permanent lights. Each resident bears individual responsibility to fulfill all the conditions.
5) Request meeting of a few resident representatives with the board to help explain and come to an amicable solution to ensure all residents are happy.
Thank you for your kind consideration
