Having just been apart of selecting a principal I know that this process is not smooth. I wish more information was available. Confidentiality does not mean there can not be transparency and inclusion.

It is regretful and damaging to G-ETS that an egregious breach in due process has been perpetrated by the two Trustees charged with co-chairing the Presidential Search Committee. Both individuals should resign immediately as co-chairs of the Search Committee and as Trustees. This is not the first time that a bishop of the UMC has used anonymity to impede a transparent process. Finally, this failed search process must be abandoned and a new search process must be initiated. Failure to do so will confirm G-ETS’s commitment to institutionalized injustice and character assassination by breach of due process.

This is a slur campaign. We would not allow a bishop to face an “anonymous” charge, why would we place this standard on a presidential candidate at a seminary.

This is unacceptable and I'm disgusted by the actions of the board of trustees. This is not justice. This is not fairness. This decision is rooted in white supremacy and is not what the UMC stands for. -A concerned friend of Garrett students and a UMC member.

The Garrett seminary board needs to
follow its own process and allow transparency to be just and fair. This is a crucial time in the life of the seminary and UMC.

Garrett Seminary, as a Class of 2016 MDiv Alum, I am thoroughly disappointed in the lack of leadership and character demonstrated by those persons entrusted to uphold the ideals and principles of my Alma Mater. Your actions have brought shame upon an institution I held dear!

As a provisional elder in the UMC and an inquirer to Garrett’s Doctor of Ministry program, I am deeply concerned about this act of abuse of power and the institutional racism occurring at the seminary. The outcome of the handling of this situation will factor in my decision to continue with my admission application.

As a student of a theological seminary who is working towards ordination as clergy in the UMC, my heart hurts to see that Garrett-Evangelical is facing this tumultuous time. I was thoroughly impressed with meeting students from G-ETS at the General Conference in St Louis, the students were driven, involved, and vocal for justice. I would hope that the theological seminary empowering their students would hold the same high standards and justice they are imparting on their students.
As being someone who went through a similar situation at a past school, these situations of lack of transparency are distractions to the students and faculty. Students question whether or not their are able to be part of their community or if this place that promises to be a place for justice or just uses that as a selling point to get students in the door. Even if this is not the case, this is the image the students are seeing. I hope the seminary takes this situation as serious as it is and listen to their students and their concerns.

I am a life long Methodist/United Methodist Church member and an Ordained Elder since 1993. I am ashamed to know that one of our church institutions would have 3 members of the Presidential search committee carry out this kind of backroom behavior. There needs to be full disclosure and fairness to ALL candidates and committee members.

As a Garrett alum, I’m sorely disappointed in the actions of the BoT and the co-chairs of the presidential search committee. I stand with the students and faculty of GETS, especially those of any minority status.
