Poor people are suffering thewith this pandemic so we must do everything we can to support children and young people. Food is a basic need.

Tories are still lower than vermin

If we can afford to eat out to help out, we can afford to stop children starving. The program is fit so purpose during term time and thus is also fit during the holidays. Take party politics and pride out of this, a mark of a civilised society is every citizen being fed, educated and housed.

Extract from letter to councillors : I am writing to raise the issue of assistance for children in Wandsworth over the school holidays. I understand that a fund of just £10,000 has been put aside to provide food assistance and that those eligible are in a very narrow and specific group, leaving the majority of children who usually receive free school meals without any provision in the school holidays. We have all seen the matter raised in the national and local press. We have also seen Conservative MPs voting to remove basic food support for children in poverty at a time of crisis. I do not intend to go into MPs, their allowances and incomes, nor the scandal of contracts being awarded to friends of members of the Government because I do not need to. This is a very simple moral, economic and humane question: as a wealthy, civilised society do we condemn already disadvantaged children to hunger when there is another option? The assumption that all children who have a social worker or who are receiving assistance from Wandsworth Children’s Services are at risk of going hungry or (more worryingly) that other children, who do not fall into either or both of those categories do not need the support is simply wrong and demonstrates a woeful lack of knowledge. The idea that children who go hungry have feckless, drug/alcohol dependant parents is a dangerous myth. The highest rise in child poverty Is among those children whose parent(s) are in employment. Those children are more than likely to be in state education and have already suffered as a result of school closures. To require them to study whilst hungry is an extraordinary expectation and one which we should be ashamed of. Even if children are unlucky enough to have parents who choose not to prioritise their needs, who can possibly say that it is, therefore, acceptable for society to add to the suffering of those children? Low income families deserve our support and this worrying and stressful time. Extending frees school meals. This is the most direct and effective way to ensure children do not go hungry.

Odious to fail poor kids like this.

Access to food is a basic human right, and extending this scheme could prevent significant suffering - why isn't the council taking action to help local people when the national government refuses to?

No child should go hungry especially in a rich country. The Government should hang their heads in shame for this!

Please carry on giving the children who are on free school meals Vouchers or food for the school holidays.

If the Government can help out those who can afford to eat out, we should also be supporting those that can’t. This is the UK in the 21st century; no child should be going hungry.

All children in life should be entitled to free school meal and government should support it
