For many years the Myers Riders have requested a practice field to call home at affordable prices. The field would have goal posts with lights and provided to our teams exclusively for our football practices and potentially our home games.
Almost every other football club have such facilities and pay a fraction of prices that Myers Riders are obliged to pay . For many years we have rented the Minto Sportsplex and have had to pay significant rental rates as compared to other clubs in Ottawa. Now, the recent upgrade to the field at Minto has left in an even more difficult position as it has been considered unsafe.
We want a designated field at Ben Franklin Park to be allocated to us for football practices. Our program has been in existence for 42 years and we have waited long enough.
I ask all those who consider our request to be reasonable to sign this petition .

I checked the count this morning and honestly felt a bit overwhelmed to see 250 names on this list. This progress belongs entirely to you because I really had no idea so many people felt this strongly about our field situation.

Seeing the count climb toward 250 signatures leaves me honestly stunned as I never imagined so many people would back the Myers Riders. If we get this final nudge over the line before we head to the city, it will represent the collective heart you have all poured into our field search.

Seeing the list grow this quickly is truly overwhelming and I never imagined we would reach this point so fast. If you could send the link to just one or two other people I think we can cross that next milestone in no time. This progress belongs entirely to the community that stepped up to help the Riders.

The "renovations" to Minto Field were a travesty, and as a result the field is now unusable for its primary purpose. The least the city can do now is build an alternate facility for football now that they have built, inadvertently or not, an exclusive facility for field hockey.
I played for Myers as a kid and currently coach minor football here in Ottawa....a practice field for a team that has provided a safe haven for thousands of our youth in Ottawa for 42 years isn't too much to ask!
Football is important in the community. The players learn several life lessons. It is a sport that all can play. My son still has a scar from playing 1 game at the Sportsplex field. It is not a viable option to play or practice at. Give us a home field, grass preferred with lights and posts.
Myers Football is an Ottawa institution. It has done so much for so many young men and families in this community for more than 40 years. It's high time the City recognized this by providing a designated, safe practice field.
Hard to believe how successful this organization has been considering the obstacles they face from their own hometown that they represent on a provincial level with excellence. Make it happen City Of Ottawa!
OMR needs a home field that is a significant upgrade to Minto Sportsplex. Safety is always everyone's 1'st priority.
