The board actually listened and decided to stick to the search process instead of taking the shortcut so we really pulled it off. It feels so strange to look at these 156 names now knowing we kept the pressure on even when things got confusing. I am just going to …

Fallbrook Union Elementary School District is in need of a strong, experienced, well-credentialed, committed superintendent of schools, one who can inspire staff, students and community. This person will be managing the largest entity in Fallbrook, with the most extensive and complex annual budget of $80,000,000., greatest number of staff members, the most expansive group of facilities and serving the largest number of clients (5,000 students and their families). The FUESD Board of Trustees has hired a consulting firm to do an extensive search for a group of highly qualified candidates from which to choose a superintendent. There is a very small group of vocal people, some of whom do not live in Fallbrook, who are attempting to influence the board to disregard the process and hire an unqualified individual. We want to make sure that the process is followed fully and faithfully and not by-passed, with community input at every level, including a community pre-interview panel.

For the FUESD Board do anything other than what has been agreed upon in the processis to greatly jeopardize the integrity of the selection process and disregard the best interests of the community. The result would be disastrous for students, parents, staff at all levels and Fallbrook as a whole for years to come.

We are signing below to let you, the FUESD Board of Trustees, know directly that we do not want you to by-pass any steps; we want you to ensure that the majority of the families whose children attend FUESD schools are taken into consideration as a major factor in the hiring decision; we want a panel of representative stakeholders to pre-interview the final candidates; and we want you be completely transparent in the process.

Seeing all these names popping up is honestly surreal especially since I was worried nobody would care about the search process at first. It makes me feel like people are finally waking up to how much this board decision matters for our schools and I might actually be able to sleep tonight for once.

I have already signed the petition. The FUESD trustees must honor the qualifications as set forth in the district’s job description and which were the consensus of community hearings. Being a nice teacher or just having an advanced degree are insufficient and unacceptable. The search firm is highly regarded and experienced. I urge the board to honor the process in place when selecting the next superintendent.

My 3 kids went to Fallbrook schools from kindergarten through high school. I taught in the district for more than a decade, and can testify that a good, qualified Superintendent makes a good school district. Board members are SUPPOSED to be non-partisan, so they need to put their personal politics aside and step up and do this RIGHT.

This school district has a long history of a positive partnership between the school board and the people it serves. Please maintain that partnership with a transparent and inclusive process for finding the next superintendent. Include teachers on your interview panel. We are on the frontline and know the qualities in a leader that would suit the needs of our students and families best.

Our students, families, and community need a qualified leader as Superintendent of FUESD, which this Board has acknowledged by hiring a consulting firm to conduct a thorough search to fill this position. As our elected representatives, we expect that this hiring process be fully followed in a transparent manner that is inclusive of diverse community input. To do anything less would be a dereliction of your duty as a Trustee and a disservice to the people of Fallbrook that elected you.

As a parent and long time Fallbrook resident, I have been able to observe how the changes in superintendents have impacted our community. At minimum, the FUESD board should follow the full process of evaluating and hiring a new superintendent. Cutting corners or skipping steps through this hiring would diminish the validity of the whole process. Please continue to seek out highly qualified candidates for our district!

As a parent and long time resident of Fallbrook, I request the board following the agreed upon superintendent search and find someone who will work with our diverse community and represent public school values of equality foe all, inclusion and separation of state and church. We also need someone with precious superintendent experiences and preferably someone who has worked with our Latino community.
