Not acceptable behavior.....there is 0 tolerance for this what so ever. If this comment was made at my job she would be fired on the spot.

We must make our policies and stated values real by having switch and appropriate consequences for racist behaviour.

We are ALL Canadians and WE have to stand together when we see something that is wrong and hurtful to our fellow Canadians.

Unacceptable behaviour that can not be swept under the rug with an apology.

Shouldn't even need a petition to make this happen.

It's sad to see this kind of thing happen in Canada.

Isn't it obvious how detrimental her influence in the school board and individual students lives is?

One whose behavior reflects a dark side in race relations should be immediately removed from key role in educational system....

If there are no repercussions for Ms. Elgie, it sends a very clear message that there are no repercussions for speaking contemptuously about ethnic minorities and using language intended to degrade and to silence. This is not only a question of doing justice in one case (although that is important!), it is also making sure that racists don't sit up and take notice that Canada's municipal-level institutions of education and governance will embrace them and condone their views.

This is absolutely unacceptable and has been a problem with this school board for a very long time. They really need to do a full investigation of principles, vice principals etc.

Everyone, but particularly those working in education, has a responsbility to behave with respect and compassion; this is an opportunity for Ms. Elgie to stand aside and make room for someone who is more capable of demonstrating this behaviour consistently, more capable of inspiring other educators to do so as well.

Anyone who uses that word should be ashamed of themselves...there's no amount of apologizing that changes what had already been said.

Unacceptable and despicable! She should definitely be removed. That word would never just 'slip out' unless lodged firmly inside the person using it.

Not acceptable. Ever.

Hate speech should not be tolerated by staff members in positions of power when dealing with parents or anyone at all. Feelings of animosity toward other ethnic groups is not something that can be controlled but professionalism should never be compromised, especially in a situation like this one. This individual knew better and failed to demonstrate that.
