Absolutely zero tolerance for this kind of behaviour and the fact that she wasn't immediately removed from her position says a lot about the York Region school system.

She should make room for a representative of this generation and resign. There are other forums in which Ms. Elgie can advocate for students. There is no longer a place for her in public office.
It would be good if she had declared herself unfit earlier, since this mispeaking does seem to be something she was aware of as a health concern resulting from the head injury and/or old age.

Did we seriously need a petition to have this woman removed? She should have immediately lost her job.

This is horrible and her apology is utterly insulting at best! There is no space for someone of this poor quality on the board

Unacceptable and despicable, no place for someone like her in our education system.

Truly unacceptable in this day and age. Shocking she would use such violent and discriminatory language.

There is no excuse for using this type of inflammatory racist language. The Trustee needs to do the right thing and step down.

The Board of Trustees are supposed to set an example for the rest of the school board. If trustees are allowed to get away with such language, what legitimacy do they have in allowing the punishment of students who use such language?

I am disgusted by this behaviour and also that YRDSB didn't immediately fired on the spot. This woman does not represent the people of her district.

the whole board needs a review. If she was that comfortable saying that word in public, it says volumes not only about her charecter but also about her colleagues who tollarate her racism.

Trustee Elgie, your racist comment and weak attempt to attribute it to the "after-effects of a head injury earlier in the fall" and your age disgusts me. Is that the best you can come up with after 2 months? If so, I give you a failing grade of F. I am equally angered that the York Region school board claims that they have no power to remove you. So much for the Board's zero tolerance for discrimination. I ask you to do the right thing and resign immediately.
