It's unfortunate we must go through this length to have appropriate action be taken.

First, she said it. Then, she denied it. Then, she did not apologize to the faces of the people she said it to. This is a problem and she needs to resign. This type of behaviour needs to be made an example of.

I am a secondary school teacher in Toronto. I find this absolutely outrageous. Why are we even having this conversation? Nancy Elgie's values are clearly at odds Ministry of Education rhetoric around equity issues.

Inexcusable. An apology can not undue the harm that has been caused. Every racialized child and parent within YRDSB knows they will not be receiving the same quality of education and representation, if the Trustee does not resign.

Why is the board wasting money on an investigation - she needs to resign and show good faith that using that word is not acceptable and can not be erased by a simple apology.

She should resign for her behaviour immediately. There is no excuse for using that language in public to anyone, especially to a parent.

Shame on Nancy Elgie and the YRDSB for allowing her to continue to represent them. This is intolerable and Nancy Elgie must step down.

If Elgie's really wanted to offer a heart-felt apology, she would have done so in person and then offer her resignation.
This foolishness about a delayed effect from a head injury is ridiculous, and an excuse.
I am signing this petition in support of Elgie resigning ASAP.

This is inexcusable, and unacceptable.
Our schools need to stop tolerating racism.

Elgie seems to think that a couple of letters of apology, weeks too late to matter, will make the problem go away. She blames her age and a "head injury" for her words. Frankly, if her age is making her "words come out wrong," that's reason enough to resign.

Zero tolerance! Zero trust if she remains on the board. Clearly, she is unfit to work in the education system if her brain didn't immediately register her use of a racial slur . Petition signed!

This is intolerable and we will not stop pushing until she steps down. This is not Trump Land and you cannot censor us from any social media medium. YRDSB if it is publicity you want, it is publicity you will get!
