End Bridgewater Mass Surveillance Program !
Dear Bridgewater City Council,
We are writing to you as concerned citizens of Bridgewater regarding the installation and expansion of Flock license plate readers on roads leading into and out of Bridgewater.
While we do support reasonable efforts to ensure public safety, we have grave concerns about the broad and lasting implications of having a series of cameras that track nearly all citizens coming in to and leaving our city despite nearly all being innocent people. We as human beings have a right to privacy and our fourth amendment to the constitution enshrines his right to travel without being followed and documented as we go about our travels in daily life.
We also have concerns about access to outside 3rd parties and hackers as well as Flock having a poor history of being untrustworthy.
To date we are unaware of any transparent, inclusive process of Q and A to discuss this with the citizens of Bridgewater. Systems of this level have long lasting affects on Bridgewater's citizens and their relationship with its government as well as civil liberties, privacy and public trust.
At this point we are requesting the following actions:
1) Turn off all of the current cameras
2) Remove all of the installed cameras.
3) End the contract with Flock Safety, giving them a 30 day notice.
4) Pass ordinance to require city council input and rigorous public debate before any surveillance can be put up in the future.
Sincerely,
Comment
