Dear colleagues,

As an initiative to foster gender equality in European neurosurgery, we would like to create a committee for Women in Neurosurgery within the EANS (EANS-WINS).

Sister societies have been active in the United States (WINS) and the WFNS for almost two decades, where they have worked hard to encourage female participation and excellence in neurosurgery. Unfortunately, we lack such an organization in Europe, and scarce data are available in regards to female participation in European neurosurgery.

The goals of the EANS-WINS committee are:

a) Establish a mentoring programme for female neurosurgeons in Europe,

b) Encourage female participation in leadership positions within the EANS,

c) Document female participation in European neurosurgery,

d) Identify gender-related issues within European neurosurgery,

e) Encourage policy-making to ensure a more equitable European neurosurgery.

As part of our efforts and continuous dialogue with the EANS Board of Directors, nurseries shall be available at future EANS Annual Congress Events. Furthermore, we are working together with the EANS Board of Directors to increase female participation in leadership positions and faculty.

Together, we can achieve more. As a committee, we can join efforts to reach a more equitable European neurosurgery.

Be a part of this initiative. Let the EANS Board of Directors know that Women in European Neurosurgery deserve a committee for their affairs.
