I'm so grateful to the teachers at DSA for the many ways they care about our students. I know their workload is profound, yet they still give my daughter the feeling of being an important individual in their eyes. Excellent team, excellent teachers and staff. We need to provide them with better working conditions including professional pay for the professional work they do.

Teachers work harder than most of us, and they have a profound impact on the future of NC. They ALL need to be paid more, not just the newest ones, and not just the top 25%. There are far smarter ways to make a positive impact on education than what the legislature is doing now. So, be smart. Save NC. Pay teachers well; treat them like professionals.

DSA Teachers are dedicated and go above and beyond for every student under their charge. Teaching is not for the faint-hearted: it is no cushy job. Despite this, I've seen dozens of examples of DSA Teachers going the extra mile when the student needed it: putting in extra hours after school (or during the Summer, or volunteering to sponsor activities), taking extra patience to make sure each student understands both their responsibilities and opportunities, providing supplies out-of-pocket, making sure that students' concerns are heard and addressed, accommodating students facing challenges, challenging these same students to excel (and getting results!) --- in short, transforming DSA students into responsible, confident, capable, contributing Citizens. DSA Teachers expend effort far beyond "classroom duties" and for that, we should be giving them substantial raises, not cuts. I would gladly pay more in taxes if I knew it went to keep DSA Teachers *at* DSA. And, to those without children, think of this: would you rather spend a few pennies to live in a thriving City surrounded by competent, able Citizens, or, would you rather save a few pennies and watch your City crumble around you? Keeping great Teachers at DSA is Good Business. Good Citizens are THE Foundation of a healthy City, and Good Citizens are forged every minute of every day at DSA by the same Teachers we are about to lose if we do not raise their pay. Act now to keep DSA Teachers, before we lose any more. Politics is temporary, but the effects of Good Teaching are forever.

This system is another example of the misguided values of the current administration. I fully support these teachers in standing against such an unjust and punitive system!

I support our teachers for all of the hard work and dedication for "years" of work. So many people have no idea what it takes, "mentally" to fulfill the duties of a Teacher!!

DPS has done an excellent job with our three children. It's time that the politicians start treating them with respect and value the work they do for all of us.

teacher collaboration has been one of the strengths of Durham Public Schools. It is wrong to make teachers compete and insulting to take away tenure for a "$500" raise. No one in business would tolerate being treated like that. For shame!!

My granddaughters go to DSA. So I'm paying attention and their teachers are great. Our granddaughters are highly motivated and having a great experience. Reward those teachers fairly.

This offer from our General Assembly is woefully inadequate and incredibly inappropriate. It fails to reward excellence or to provide any incentives encouraging professional standards or development.
Support teachers, don't divide them
