Hello,
I am a Dhol Vadak from Surya Pratishthan Pathak and have been performing for almost 10 years. Out of these 10 years, we got the chance to perform in the evening at Lakshmi Road only once. Every year, our pathak waits till late night or half the night for our turn. The crowd and energy at night are completely different compared to morning, but due to DJs lined up and blocked roads, the miravnuk of many mandals gets delayed. Still, different dhol pathaks perform with full energy throughout the night at Lakshmi Road.
A complete ban on DJs would not be a good step, as it will affect the livelihood of sound system owners and others who depend on it. However, guidelines must be set for DJs – the type of songs played should be cultural and appropriate. Even Ganapati Bappa would not like the songs currently played during the miravnuk. The volume should also be controlled.
DJs can also be used for positive cultural activities like dance performances, games, acts, etc., instead of the “chapari songs and chapari dance” which spoils the atmosphere. A good option could be one DJ system shared among 10 or more mandals – this would save both time and money. The saved money can then be used for better purposes.
Like we had rules during Corona, similar sensible rules should be made for Ganeshotsav – rules that ensure smooth celebration without causing trouble to people!
Plz banned DJ
