I support In-person meetings for Carrboro Town Council

We are able to meet safely to discuss issues in-person once again.

A truly wild take from an educator. Just wild.

Zoom is perfectly fine and doesn't impede your ability to speak at meetings. To require this to be only in-person is unethical, especially for those with young children who cannot be vaxxed.

Important decisions and discussions deserve real time, in person community connection.

Thank you for speaking for our community and making known some very important information to our citizens.

This library, already unnecessary due to the profusion of libraries within a 5 mile radius (Davis, Undergraduate, Wilson, CH) will become a gathering place for free internet seekers who will take over the place, occupy the computers from dawn to dusk, use the bathrooms to bathe, petition passerby for money to eat at Wendy’s, scare off patrons, and leave litter in front of the building. Leave a crumb outside, you’ll have a cluster of ants. Remove the crumb, they’ll go elsewhere. It’s common sense. But Carrboro wants to pay $40 million for the crumb.

Meetings should be held in a hybrid format to accommodate the greatest number of community members.

Our town’s resources are precious and should better reflect the current needs of the community. Apart from the egregious inflation of costs to the community this project is not appropriate for the area and doesn’t address the greater impacts to the surrounding small businesses, traffic flow, and it’s citizens

Please reconsider this location.

I strongly support making Carrboro's town government less accessible to individuals who have complex lives that may not allow them to readily clear out multiple hours on a week night to petition for a redress of their grievances. It is the most effective way for incumbent property owners to monetize incumbency and to exclude individuals from becoming part of our community. Town government should be only for the upper middle class, elderly and cranks.

Please relocate the 203 Project. I live near the proposed site and it’s going to be a mess. With OWASA doing so much work currently, how do expect the businesses to succeed? They are closing for Covid, road construction, and lack of customers able to get to their shops. SMH.

In this time of decentralization where big box stores and businesses are giving way to more direct sources of supply it makes no sense to erect such a place to distribute books, unless doing so is secondary to some other political agenda. If the town truly wishes to spread literacy, a fleet of bookmobiles reaching town neighborhoods from even dusk to dawn would be a much cheaper and more direct, consumer-friendly solution. I hope that the Board of Aldermen would consider more creative solutions to community literacy than such a money pit that this project will become.

Please reconsider the placement and scale of the 203 Project. It does not fit where you are proposing. Keep Carrboro on a human scale. Space is a limited commodity. Use it wisely. We have been unable to attend any meeting in person since this current iteration was up for approval.

Please scale this building down and move it out towards where the new Art Center is going. I'm not against any libraries but this one is pushing me. It's too expensive and way too large. You've been holding these meetings in a time no one could show up and only those with internet access could participate to address their concerns or express a dissenting opinion. It's it for the people, by the people? Or did that change? The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good government."

What has this once proud nation come to that so many of its citizens have become frightened by their own shadow? If this had been the case back in the late 1700s we Brits would never have been run out of town! Get a grip for Godsakes!

Time to stop hiding behind Zoom curtain. Real people are not digital images.

They are intentionally making this meeting a virtual due to the fact that thousands of people in the community are opposed to Project 203. The price has more than doubled since it was approved - when the community was busy trying to stay alive during the height of the pandemic!
