CUNY is the Most Systemically Antisemitic University in the U.S.: We Demand that the University Adopts the IHRA Definition of Antisemitism

I am a graduate of the Graduate Center of CUNY, and I am a tenured professor at BMCC/CUNY. Thus, this issue is very important to me.

Many immigrant Jews began their eventual careers in CUNY. Today, this once prestigious university has instead become a bastion of hatred. It is shameful, and the only ethnic group to experience this virulent hatred are the Jewish students.

There is no safe space for hate. Please end antisemitism at CUNY by adopting the IHRA definition of antisemitism. This definition doesn’t inhibit speech, on the contrary, it will foster healthy and safe conversations about Israel, Palestine, and Middle East Politics. .

In a world rife with too much hate and misinformation, I find it embarrassing, as a CUNY faculty member, to find a branch of CUNY applauding such a hate-filled propaganda diatribe from a CUNY Commencement stage! Shame on those who invited Ms. Kiswani to address this occasion and double-shame on those who enthusiastically applauded her diatribe. Have you all forgotten what academic critical thinking and civil discourse are all about?!

My late father went to CUNY. What’s happened to the school is an outrage.
