Our kids received preparation for first communion and first confession in elementary school. Why wouldn't this continue in middle and elementary school?

One of the reasons that we send our kids to Catholic school is for them to get the preparation needed for the sacraments.

Cardinal Newman prepared all of my children for their Confirmation.....A Catholic school is the perfect environment to learn about this sacrament and prepare the children of today as well.

Our son was confirmed while at CN and received the majority of his instruction in Theology class, as did I in Catholic school. Please consider allowing that to continue.

A Catholic School should absolutely provide instruction for preparation of all necessary Sacraments as part of the Theology class. For those students not preparing for the sacrament, other class material can be given or they can have an opportunity to learn the faith of our school. CNHS is the absolute place for this instruction.

One of the most wonderful part of Catholic education is the benefits of a Catholic education which includes preparation for the special and most important sacrament of confirmation! Please reconsider this decision !

I received preparation for confirmation (along with other sacraments) as part of my regular religion coursework at a parochial school within the Diocese of Charleston. This is part of the reason that I chose to send my child to Catholic school.--parent of rising 8th grader

I think it is a good idea for students to get their religious instruction during regular class hours. This takes a lot of pressure off the kids, and parents to have go out in the evening. Leaves more time for homework and sports.

Parent of rising 7th grader. Excellent staff at CN to teach the skills required for Confirmation. We trust them with our children and financial resources to teach ALL academic standards...let's trust them with this as well.

Firmly believe “in house” teaching can be more instructive and a better approach.

I also believe that the because the students already have a very strong bond of friendship with one another this will enhance their involvement in the Church as well as encourage one another to stay committed to their faith AFTER they receive the Sacrament.

I agree! That is how my daughter did it at Cardinal Newman. Also, you run the risk of turning the kids off by having both theology and then two more hours a week. All of the boys in that we drive say that it is stuff they have learned in school already. I think the church program will actually work better with fewer kids. They will learn more as well.

One of the reason for sending our son to a Catholic school was so that that he could get his Catholic education there. I have heard from some people that the reason that it’s not being caught at Cardinal Newman it’s because the majority of students are not Catholic, well I am, sorry, but if you chose to send your child to a Catholic School you should understand that their religious education is part of the curriculum. All of the students that attend St. Joseph are prepared and go through the 1st Communion education and ceremony, what makes CN exempt from doing the same thing???
