We need a beautiful natural place to walk and ride along west river. But most importantly a SAFE area to walk, bike or run.

As an urban planner and Grand Island resident, I can tell you this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to correct a monumental planning mistake. The West River Parkway was part of the Robert Moses fallacy, an experiment in transportation that never should have been built and whose function was never fully realized.
Does the West River Trail need more parking? No, there are parking lots every 3 miles along West River. If parking becomes a problem, it can easily be addressed later. Will it result in new traffic? No, it will result in people walking or biking past while enjoying the scenery instead of the hum of car tires driving past at 55 or 65 miles per hour. It will be a quieter and more tranquil place. Will it increase commute times? It will add less than 5 minutes to the average commute time...nobody drives down the Parkway from end to end, they use it to access the main east-west roads that connect to the center of the Island. Is it better to have a park than a highway in your front yard? Absolutely - for property values, air quality, safety, etc.
This is a chance to turn an eyesore into an asset, to connect the Niagara River Greenway, and to enhance our waterfront, while providing new recreational opportunities.

I support the parkway being closed to convert to a bike path. I think the state needs to adjust the number and/or locations of the parking lots, placing one between the service road and the parkway at Love Road is just stupid.
