BIS - Tuition Fees Reduction Appeal

The school is experiencing a huge cost reduction from the utility fees such as air conditioning, swimming pool and science laboratory equipments (eg.chemicals). Some one has stated that we are in a good position financially and should be grateful for what we currently have. However, there are parents like myself who are also working day and night to send our children to school and keep our heads just above the water. The school administrators are the ones who are in a much better position than the school parents as not all parents are financially stable. The condescending tone of the appeal can sound offensive to the hard-working staff of BIS, but people should know that this appeal isn't just parents being selfish.

I think this is a simply commonsense request as BIS parents. I expect to see what the real "partnership" between school and parents that school has always emphasized on is. I hope this petition helps school understands the situation better and takes more reasonable action.

Dear whoever wrote this suggestion, One important point which you have failed to recognize is what the actual BIS community consists of. This is not only parents, teachers, and students. This community consists of cleaning staff, guards, admin staff, IT support staff and many more individuals who help contribute and rely on the functions of BIS for the entirety of their income. I do understand and agree that there needs to be some evaluation of the fees and requirements of BIS, however, I feel as if this petition and appeal is inconsiderate, disrespectful and insulting to all staff currently working at BIS. You constantly mention how the E-learning system is 'inferior' and to some extent this is true. However, this system has presented extremely effective when used correctly. Yes, it isn't as good as being physically present in school but obviously, this isn't possible. The e-learning system is as effective as the students make it for themselves. The engagement levels that students decide to bring to lessons is what determines the effectiveness of their learning as well as the materials presented. You clearly do not understand the measures the teachers are taking to ensure the best education possible in these difficult circumstances. Although there is a reduction that needs to be put in place for the fees the condescending tone and alligations put forward in this appeal need to be reconsidered and changed. A major discount would gravely affect the salaries of all staff working at BIS. Teachers who have families they need to support are the least of my concerns. The support staff, on the other hand, are who would be at the biggest disadvantage in this case. BIS are simply trying to survive in these circumstances just like any other business, many of which parents like you are responsible for, the stakeholders involved are all affected negatively. Covid-19 is bringing us lots of difficulties and challenges, but also opportunities to help fixing those difficulties and challenges. VN electricity reduce electricity price, landlords are reducing rent by at least 20% and max up to 50%, car/van owners discount 30% of the rent, employees have to (or are willing to) take at least 30% pay cut, etc. All of these can happen given BIS' current business condition. Then a tuition discount is completely achievable for us, who are parents at the other hand are employees that got pay cut that need help on the tuition reduction.

I also do agree some efforts can and should be made. Not only because some savings are obvious with utilities but also rent discounts can be negotiated (majority of lessors for residential, retail or office have offered lower rents for their lessees) and mostly in line with the school values of solidarity during difficult times for all with parents losing their jobs or having salary cuts.

I strongly ask for at least 40% discount on 2020-2021 school fee. School has to share the pain with parents.

Definitely agree with this petition. Parents should not have to pay full price when students are not even physically attending school or using any school facilities.

I am strongly requesting at least 30% discount or refund in fees paid for the 2019/2020 academic year to reflect the inferior e-learning provision of education compared to the education. A number of international schools have decided to discount or refund the school fee.
