The Unicode Consortium officially confirmed the avocado is coming to our keyboards. I am grinning from ear to ear knowing we pushed this over the line together. Now we just have to wait for the update to hit our phones so we can start texting our brunch plans in style.

Final supporters
There’s an apple emoji. There’s a watermelon emoji. There’s a lemon emoji. But even with all these delicious fruits, there’s a big California-sized hole in the emoji keyboard. We want a California Avocado emoji to fill it.
Unicode Consortium, a nonprofit in charge of regulating the coding standards for written computer text (including emojis!), announced the avocado as one of the 63 emoji character candidates for 2016.
“FINALLY!” we collectively exclaimed. Because adding California Avocado to anything makes it infinitely better, and emojis are no exception.
Think about it:
The egg emoji + a California Avocado emoji + a question mark = the easiest brunch invitation ever.
The sunset emoji + a California Avocado emoji + a question mark = a first date sure to lead to a second, a third, etc.
So become an avocado advocate by signing this petition, and we’ll personally send it over to Unicode to help push them in the ripe direction.

My toast just feels incomplete without a digital representation of my favorite fruit to pair with it. If you have been waiting to post this on your feed, now is the time to push us past the hundred mark so the committee sees our hunger for this update.

I'm allergic to avocados. They're not allowed in my house and most definitely not my mouth! My wife once tried to kill me with a kiss after eating one. So, I hope that this avocado emoji is the closest I ever have to get to one.
I lived in Ventura county for many years. Avocados were a huge part of our lives then and still are. Avocados are good for U and can be used in so many different ways. My favorite avocado recipe is the avocado salsa at Olas in Camarillo, Ca. Yum!!! Give us a cute emoji!! I will use it everyday!
If its a matter of space, lets replace either the cantaloupe or eggplant emojis with an avocado. Science has shown that the cantaloupe is far more polarizing than avocado and is limited only to breakfast and/or brunch applications. Plus, an avocado emoji is far less phallic than the eggplant emoji. We need to think of the children and our children's children.
Something so yummy and healthy should definitely have it's own emoji.. I lost 65 lbs eating a half avocado nearly every day. Even though now I'm not eating exactly the way I should, I CRAVE my avocados... Best thing food wise on this earth along with bacon and chocolate..
Love it! Was enjoying an avocado today, looked up how to grow my own tree on the California Avocado Board website - saw TODAY is the annual festival! Great - I will use this emoji!

In English, the fruit was first described as an “Avagato pear” because of its pear-like shape. Later it also became known as an “alligator pear” given the alligator-like appearance to the skin. Over time, the term Avocado became the common word used to describe the fruit in English. We need this as an Emoji.
