The 92Y just confirmed they are keeping the library open. We stopped this closure because you kept the pressure on until they had no other choice. Keep using the space and keep an eye on their upcoming board meetings.

The Buttenwieser Library at the 92nd St. Y has been serving a variety of patrons for almost 80 years. Now they have decided to close the library's doors because (per their uninformative letter) "the impact of technology on the way people use libraries and access information has been profound; libraries around the country and around the world are rethinking their operations." These are regurgitated words that are not representative of the actual Y Library users; they are a cop-out for an economically-charged decision that will hurt thousands of users in the neighborhood. From senior citizens to job-seekers to after-school students with limited learning resources, the community will be permanently affected by this decision; a lifelong tradition of and commitment to individual attention and outstanding public service spanning a broad range of users will end if we do not make our voices heard NOW.

The management at the 92nd St. Y is ignoring the community while trying to justify this closure with empty corporate speak. I am currently organizing a direct delivery of our petition to their board of directors. Post the link on your Facebook page and text the petition to three local neighbors so we keep the pressure on.

The momentum behind this campaign is undeniable proof that this library is a vital resource for our neighbors. Post the petition link to your Facebook page right now to ensure the board cannot ignore our growing coalition. Text three friends and tell them why they need to sign today.

This place is a neighborhood staple. My kids have been going there for years to do their homework. Where are they supposed to go now?

Tech doesnt replace the quiet and the books. Ridiculous excuse to close a historic space. Keep it open!

TOTAL GARBAGE. They just want the space for something else and are blaming the internet. Don't let them do this.

80 years of history gone just like that? This is a huge mistake.
