91 SECS OF SILENCE FOR MR LEE @ NDP 2015 BEFORE THE PLEDGE
FOR SINGAPOREANS TO HONOUR MR LEE BY RENEWING OUR PERSONAL PLEDGE TO THE NATION.
At this moment of grief, many of us feel a sense of loss. What can I do, what can WE do to honour Mr Lee Kwan Yew?I would like to humbly suggest that one way is for each Singaporean to renew our Pledge to our Nation this National Day - our 50th year of independence.
I would like to invite you to support this idea to the authorities to observe 91 secs of silence to remember Mr Lee. One second for every year of his life.
I hope that the authorities will support the idea if at least 91,000 Singaporeans will agree to :
1) Observe 91 seconds of silence whether they are living in Singapore or overseas.
2) Agree to reflect on the words of the Pledge for 91 seconds as penned by Mr Lee and Mr Rajaratnam - that “We the Citizens of Singapore, Pledge ourselves as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion, to build a democratic society, based on justice and equality, so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and progress of our Nation”.
3) Renew our commitment to our country in honour of Mr Lee. That we will build our country for the next 50 years journey towards SG2065 according to his ideas set out in the Pledge.
This petition is started by an ordinary Singaporean born in 1968. Not an MP, nor a government servant. SG2065 is a project idea that seeks to bring Singaporeans together for the next 50 years.
More elaboration of idea : -
In 1965, Mr Lee and Mr Rajaratnam summarised the vision of Singapore in 38 words. For the last 50 years, every single Singaporean had memorised these 38 words.
Let's connect the Pledge with the authors of the Pledge by observing 91 seconds of silence instead of the usual 60 seconds, and to renew our pledge to our country quietly in our hearts before we recite it.
If 91,000 of us agree, we will approach the NDP organisers with this idea.
Sincerely
Philip Wu Chong Guan, Ordinary Singaporean
