It would be a dishonor to the survivors of sexual violence among us to not talk about the hurtful reality of the type of relationship depicted in 50 shades of grey.

I hope that the people who watch 50 Shades on campus (and elsewhere) think about what they are watching, and understand that consent is necessary for pleasure, no matter how that pleasure is reached, consent is absolutely necessary.

As a victim of sexual assault on campus it took everything I had not to tear down the poster when I saw it appear in my residence hall lobby. Yes, if people what to read the book or watch the movie that is there personal choice. However, what this movie does is makes what happened to me okay. It makes it not a big deal, if anything it praises it. Is that really what we want people to be learning? It makes me very uncomfortable that this is coming to campus. Normally the movies are the highlight of my friends group weekends. Not this time... I ask that you think about what you are reading, think about what you are viewing, what it really means for you and the people around you. Actions speak louder than words. Take a stand. Be a difference. Don't condone these behaviors.
