I have watched my kiddos go from carefree kids to kids that are anxiety ridden, and have separation anxiety.. they have gotten a little better since we started 4 days but they need to go back to their normal life!!! 5 days please

It is my understanding that the elementaries will be going back 5 days a week soon. Hopefully they all can get back though.

Patricia, thanks for sharing! Maybe the Board or Dr. Patel could consult with the private schools as to how they’re doing it? (Although I’d be surprised if they haven’t already). Even though the student body in general is smaller, class sizes individually tend to be similar.

It’s happening in larger districts, specifically in St Charles Co. where positivity rates are higher than JeffCo, but their rates are dramatically lower in specifically in Elementary schools.

Nikki, I couldn’t agree more...only asking that it be done at schools where the staff supports it because they know it’s manageable and feasible. I started this because I’ve learned that certain elementary schools in particular could be making this happen NOW!

I think this decision should be made based on the building level. I understand that teachers who have both virtual and in person need the extra time to plan. However, the elementary teachers teach either in person or virtual (which just a few exceptions). I see no reason why the elementary cant be back in 5 days.
If the board and Dr. Patel do not put the kids back in 5 days, I would like to at least hear their reasons why.

I have 3 kids in the Francis Howell district. My children have been going in person 5 days a week since Aug 31 with no issues. Masks work, period. Get these kids back in school 5 days a week. You are failing the students in your district by not doing so.

I feel the kids have a right to a full education. All they do on Wednesdays is lay around, sleep and eat all day. They need to be learning. This is especially hard on my kindergartner, as she has not been able to get on a steady school schedule yet. My high school child struggles because she has to watch her siblings on the off days as well. These kids need the interaction with others and they have the right to an education.

The virtual day in the middle of the week is very disruptive. Especially those in Elementary school. Why have the other districts in Jefferson County able to figure this out but we have not. We are requesting the administrators go back to the drawing board and do better. This petition signed for me is for action now and the next school year. We cannot open another year like this. Our children are falling behind. My child went from having A/B average to C’s and D’s.

The kids need to be in school learning five days a week. Not only for their education but for their mental health. They need a routine and structure like any other year but even more this year due to the enormous amount of stress this last year has caused them. They are falling behind and it isn’t right to keep them out of school any longer. I can not emphasize how bad they need their teachers in a classroom setting and not the virtual learning they are currently receiving.
