Reverse the tax increase for Kippens residents

The town of Kippens had the opportunity to reduce town spending during 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. While the office was closed, events cancelled, recreation cancelled and a mild winter - the town maintained their expenditures (with a significant increase to legal fees, I might add).
Residents have been faced with job loss, reduced incomes, depreciating property values. To support residents through this, the town has increased MILL rates, and have not offered payment plans or deferral of payment. It would be nice to see some empathy and compassion from leaders.
How were council members impacted by this decision?!?

I agree with all the comments posted. Transparency, consistency with other municipalities, and better services are required to justify incRease. More empathy is needed by decision makers if this decision feels ok during time of pandemic and rising insecurity. Put in sewer, pave the remaining dirt residential lanes and consider your voting demographic at the very least.

Before I moved to Kippens, I was the Mayor Of Port au Port- Aguathuna- Felix Cove. Every year when we did our budget, I would call a town meeting and presented it to the people. They have a right to know what's in the budget, it's what effects them and I wanted their input.
I've always said that the Town of Kippens is the only Town that I know off that doesn't give a senior a tax brake. If a senior pays their taxes a month before the taxes are due, then they should be given a 2% tax brake. The Town will not loss anything for they have the money which now is making bank interest. Like I said, other towns do it, so why can't our town? Kippens has an aging population. Perhaps to be fair about it, perhaps they should give that tax relief to all citizens no mater what your age is. Food for thought.

As a senior it is hard enough paying what I have to. Are you trying to force people out of their homes. I know its been a hard year for businesses but it can't be recouvered on the backs of the people especially seniors. If taxes go up then I better see sewer going through, ENOUGH ALREADY SENIORS CAN NOT AFFORD THIS AND IM SURE THERE ARE ALOT OF YOUNGER PEOPLE WHO LOST THEIR JOBS DURING THIS PANDEMIC THAT ARE ALSO STRUGGLING.. Smarten up people the people in the town of kippens are struggling to live besides having the town kick us while we are down .

I see no reason why the rate is going up the town. This will be the deciding factor for many who might be thinking about buying in Kippens. Many don’t want to live here because of the septic.

I don’t believe taxes should be raised with people losing their jobs with this pandemic on.Kippens who have a Lot of residents that are senior citizens and are on fixed incomes,Seniors shouldn’t have to worry every year because taxes are being Raised.I don’t believe a payment plan is the cure stop raising taxes.
