Background and Information

Plano city has posted the “Proposed Zoning Change” signs on the North and South Sides of McDermott near the corner of McDermott Rd and Robinson Rd. This particular area is currently zoned for a Commercial-Garden Office. However, a Developer (Skorburg Company) has filed a petition for the City of Plano to change the zoning to Single Family Townhome.

Skorburg presented their plan to the Plano Planning & Zoning Commission (PPZC) on February 15, 2016. A Preston Creek HOA officer and four (4) other homeowners, and an officer from the Hidden Creek HOA attended the meeting and strongly opposed the zoning change. As a result of the opposition and comments made by members of the PPZC, the zoning change was denied by a vote of 8 to 0. The Chairman of the Commission mentioned that a major factor in determining their decision was the large number of emails, letters and petitions received by the department.

Since then they have made a few feeble attempts to meet with neighboring communities to either gain support or a lack of disapproval from homeowners. In effect, creating a situation where they can say to city council that there were no homeowners objecting to their proposal and they have addressed their concerns.

What are our concerns?

• We don’t want another multi-unit complex near our sub-division
• Decrease in property values
• Increased car traffic coming into the neighborhood
• Possibility for another FISD re-zoning
• Trees and other natural preservations will be destroyed

What is being asked of you now?

Prior to this meeting we would like to collect as many signatures from every homeowner who is in opposition of this re-zoning, which will also prevent this developer from executing a pending purchase contract and building on this land.

We will submit this petition by Friday evening. Hence, we strongly encourage you to sign and possibly comment on this petition if you wish to oppose the rezoning.

Please attend the appeal hearing at City Council on Monday, April 25th at 7:00pm and voice your concerns if permitted.
