The board officially walked back the rezoning proposal today. I am drained from this fight but deeply relieved that our schools and neighborhoods will remain as they are for now. We need to stay vigilant to ensure this plan does not resurface later.

Final supporters
The Hoover Board of Education cites the following:
- building at this time is premature
-Trace Crossings Elementary currently has capacity to accommodate additional students
- there will be nine neighborhoods impacted
- the current plans are in the draft stage and will need to be approved by the Department of Justice
Hoover citizens affected by the impact present the following:
- schools were primary drivers for home purchases
- travel distance to and from school would change drastically for those affected by the move
- the Hoover Board has not considered the current residents in this decision
- the proposal has not been communicated effectively
Hoover residents impacted offer the following options for consideration by the Hoover School Board:
- zone the new communities to the schools that have capacity
- build new school buildings to accommodate the huge increase (It has been stated that building is premature, but current numbers suggest that the increased number of new developments would make the rezoning plan insufficient to accommodate new growth within the next two to three years.)
Many of the Hoover residents are of the opinion that the responsibility for accommodating new developments should not rest on the shoulders of our children. So, we are doing what we can to "fight" this rezoning effort. To that end, this petition is being created to show Hoover residents rejection of the proposal that was presented at the rezoning meeting 07/30/14. Please sign this petition to indicate your rejection of the Hoover City Proposal to Re-zone schools.

The emails I receive from families worried about their children being uprooted are heavy to carry but they confirm why we started this fight in the first place. I have spent the last few days trying to get a straight answer from the board about their long term plans instead of just their draft proposals. This process is exhausting and often feels like shouting into a void but we are not going anywhere.

We moved here specifically for this school district. My kids have their friends and routines here. Do not disrupt their education just because of poor planning.
We bought our house based on the school zones. Changing this now feels like a bait and switch for all of us neighborhoods.
Trace Crossings has space so why are we moving kids from schools that are already working well? This makes no sense at all.
Stop ignoring the parents and start listening. We deserve to have a say in where our children go to school.
TOTAL BS. They dont even tell us what is going on until it is already decided. Focus on the new construction instead of ruining the established zones.
