1st grade class size 2012-2013
Dear Sirs,
We the undersigned are parents of the current kindergarten class at the Linden Avenue School. We are concerned about the class size for our children as they make the transition into 1st grade.
The current 1st grade class has 4 sections while the current kindergarten and second grades have 3 sections. The present number of kindergarten and 1st grade students is essentially the same (there are a total of 2 more 1st grade students). Despite this there is some consideration being given to moving the extra class section to the 2nd grade rather than keeping it in the 1st grade.
We think this would be unfair to our children for at least two reasons. First, we believe the transition from kindergarten to first grade is more challenging than the transition from 1st to 2nd. Second, research shows that children learn better with more individual attention. We feel that all students who pass through Linden should have the benefit of small class size and that it would be unfair for this advantage to follow one group of students.
By signing this letter we request that the extra class section remain in the 1st grade thereby giving our children, and all children who pass through Linden the advantage of small class size, especially in a year that can be a difficult transition.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
