University Village was one of the best places to live here on MSU’s campus until the 1855 Place construction project begun. Although we’re sure that MSU has good intentions with the project and its ability to add value and significance to our campus, MSU has failed to realize the inconvenience and frustration this project has placed on University Village’s current residents.
Due to the 1855 Place construction project, parking has become difficult and inconvenient for residents and their guests, commuting to and from classes has become extremely difficult due to road and sidewalk restrictions and the complex is now riddled with constant noise and terrible odors throughout the day from construction equipment.
We the residents of University believe that our rights are being infringed. Rights stated in the On-Campus Housing Handbook, sections 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3.
Due to all these issues, we kindly ask that we receive some sort of reimbursement in the means of a reduction of rent for the duration of the construction project, grant residents with a partial parking pass refund and/or the option to opt out of our housing contracts because we were not aware of the 1855 Place project construction before we signed.

I have been hearing from so many neighbors who are just as exhausted by these daily disruptions as I am. It is clear that we were all left in the dark about the true extent of this project before we signed our leases.

Seeing so many of my neighbors come forward has been overwhelming because it confirms I am not the only one struggling to sleep through the noise. This momentum proves that the university needs to acknowledge the reality of our daily lives here.

I am the parent of a student living there and the unexpected construction is beyond inconvenient. I believe compensation is in order.
This is unfair for the students to have to live surround by a construction zone. Literally all sides of the complex have construction. How are they supposed to peacefully study with constant banging and vibrations coming from outside?
This is my third year at UV and I feel that I deserve compensation for the drop in quality of living here. The rent and parking permit costs are unreasonable, especially because of the large construction project. Residents at UV are not getting what they signed up for.
This construction is horrible. The smell alone almost made me throw up on my way to class last week. I have been woken up several times throughout the course of this year from the early morning construction. If I would have known about this before signing up to live here I would have considered living elsewhere.
I agree. We were not notified at sign up that this construction would be happening. Not to mention that it is interfering with getting on to campus. I am frustrated that I had to pay that much for parking outside of my own complex and now I can barely get a spot outside of my building. They should have done this project over the summer when fewer people lived here.
The noise is crazy!!

I believe parking refund/reduction is not as fair as a rent reduction, because not everyone has cars at university village, yet we all have to endure the construction noise and smell and we also had to walk way out of our way to the make shift bus stop for a month.....
