To: The Honorable Board of Selectmen,
This petition from residents of the Town of Clinton to the Board of Selectmen requests that the approximate 8 acres of town owned property located at 172 Sterling Street be transferred to the Parks and Recreation Department for the purpose of developing open space and quality recreational areas. The development of this property for recreation purposes would provide much needed open space and recreational land to an area that currently does not have any parks. It will also enhance the aesthetics of our town for visitors entering Clinton from Sterling on Route 62.
Unlike any other property in town, this one provides enough space to meet multiple recreational needs. The general public’s input will be solicited to determine which specific amenities will be established within this proposed park. As with any initiative of this size, every effort will be made to acquire grants to offset funding requirements.
The undersigned petitioners request that the Board of Selectmen transfer the vacant property located at 172 Sterling Street to the Parks and Recreation Department for the purpose of exploring and developing open space within the Town of Clinton.

There are to many kids hanging around with nothing to do. This will be a great place to bring our children and get the much needed exercise and proper socialization skills and keep them out of trouble. This park will bring great value to Clinton.
The area is an eye sore and our Rec department has done wonders for this town...let them transform it!!! We certainly don’t need another factory in there!
I believe is a great idea, but we need to check the total cost to clean, build, and maintain the area. Is essential that no debt will be simple off set by increase in the current property taxes.
I fully believe that parks and recs should get all the money. There is so many things we can put there. I feel we definitely need it to be enclosed and make a good part of it be a dog park. We have so many dogs in town that don’t get out and run as much as they need to because there is no where for them to go. On the perimeter of the park can be a walking trail. I feel we need a field that our community can use when the other fields are taking over by Rec teams and school teams. Other possibilities that would be nice there would be a basketball court or a big kids playground.
Just curious as the cost of the clean up of the property? I've heard many stories of it being contaminated? From the stuff they used to wrap wires? I don't think another couple million is kicking around?
Bring some beauty to the area.

I think it's a good idea but not in that spot. I use to live right by there the traffic and the way cars fly down that street was dangerous making something that will cause more traffic and craziness it's just not a good idea. So many accidents in that area. Great idea but just not there.
