I believe adoptive parents should have equal maternity leave as natural parents. I am a foster parent and know how important it is for the children to have the proper time to bond with their new parents. Adoptive parents need time to get to know the child and the child also needs to get to know them. Why should they be discriminated against for being adopted?

Equality for all families!!!! A parent is a parent however it came to be. Treating those who have adopted children differently is ridiculous and completely unfair. I 'physically' gave birth to my babies...the 'extra' 15 months I was given was not spent physically recovering from childbirth....it was spent bonding with my children!

I just found out adoptive parents have to go back to work 15wks earlier than a birthing mom, you have gotta be kidding me! Birthed yourself or adopted, it doesn't matter, all moms should have equal maternity leave!

I've adopted 3 children from the ministry of BC. my family deserves the same rights as those that give birth.

Every parent and child deserves the same rights no matter how they've come to be a family. Adoptive children have the same needs and wants and deserves to have the same amount of time with their parent's. Just as much as a child that was born into their biological family. If a parent decides they shall go back to work less than a yr than that should be their choice. Adoptive parents don't have that right, is that equality? They deserve as much as biological parents do to nurture, love, and care, and to learn each other as much as any new parent. Maternity leave should be equal for biological and adoptive parents, how much time they need should be up to the parent, not to the fact that they're adoptive or biological. Equality for all, not just for blood.

Why does my daughter get exempted from these proven benefits? If the Government would simply take away the distinction of medical leave and lump it all in as parental leave, this blatant act of discrimination would be solved.

EI weeks should absolutely be equal for those who adopt! In many cases, those who are adopting have gone thru many fertility procedures of which are emotionally draining and which are NOT given time to heal. So please, those giving birth have gone through no more than those who adopt.

I am an adoptive parent and feel very cheated out of quality time I can spend with my child. 35 weeks goes by very fast.
