Provincial Legislation (Municipal Elections Act) dictates that Municipal Elections must be First Past the Post elections where voters may only vote for one candidate in each race. In order to get Ranked Ballots, the Province of Ontario must amend the Municipal Elections Act or pass "Enabling Legislation".

This petition has been initiated by 123Guelph: a grassroots group of citizens who want to see Ranked Ballots permitted for use in all municipalities in Ontario. By signing this petition, you are joining us in asking:

1) That the Government of Ontario consider amendments to the Municipal Elections Act or enabling legislation that will allow municipalities to adopt Ranked Ballot elections for municipal councils.

2) That Guelph City Council send a letter to the Government of Ontario expressing support for Ranked Ballot voting, and requesting amendments to the Municipal Elections Act or enabling legislation that will allow municipalities to adopt Ranked Ballot elections for municipal councils including, but not limited to Guelph.

3) That Guelph City Council resolve to examine options for implementing Ranked Ballot elections in the event that any amendments or enabling legislation comes into force.
