A new mobile phone directory service from 118800 allows people to call up the mobile numbers of strangers. The mobile phone directory has been cleared by the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) already, but privacy campaigners are concerned at how accessible the numbers of complete strangers will be.The company needs to be far more specific about where it acquired the numbers on its directory, said Simon Davies of Privacy International. Theoretically someone who has escaped from an abusive relationship or similar situation could be contacted by their abuser! You can pretend to be anyone over the telephone! Sign the petition against this service and let the 118800 know that the british public do not want this infringement of our privacy!

After hearing about this new service I became extremely concerned about the privacy of individuals, especially those who are particularly vulnerable such as those who have escaped abusive relationships.
