This is literally one of our last historical sites we have complete access to. Otherwise we are constantly relying on farmers - if they want to let us access our sacred and historical sites, because most our land in the king country is landlocked.

I'm of Maniapoto & other decent agree with the other signatures. This was a shock to me when I first read this just now to think that other red necks have thought of this brainless idea to punch a trench though or over our WAAHI TAPU site. Naa go another way, not this special way being a TAONGA to all MANIAPOTO/WAIKATO and all.

Underground is the only option. The Iwi will fund the land; Trunkway. The government and the other 'behind the scenes power player' (Fonterra) can sort with Waipa network how to make it happen. It's a no brainer really.

I am proud of my Ngati Maniapoto lineage. The Waipa runs through my veins, My many Maunga Kakepuke, Pirongia, Rangitoto and more…watched over me growing up. This Rohe is special to my heart. My Father had success in the past stopping these greedy corporates making decisions without thought or consultation with the Iwi. They used one draft report from an independent as the voice of the Iwi to grant consent "ticking the box that Iwi had been consulted" anyone I have spoken to whether or not they whakapapa to Aotearoa or not think that this process is ridiculous. If we don't unite we will have 30m high (10 storeys) monstrous pylons running through the heart of our Rohe & towering over Oto. We will become the laughing stock of the country. We can't forget the hard work of our Tipuna to make sure we are not forgotten, we matter & we have a voice that is worth listening to. So let's unite & make sure we are heard. I don't comment on the internet like this so I apologise if any of my comments have been miss interpreted. No reira Kia tau nga manakitanga o Te Kaihanga i runga i a tatou katoa, tena Koutou katoa.

@Jodi Rangitaawa, my question is, why would you want Fonterra, and iwi to fund this project together with NZGovt when Waipa Networks is a private company? Its quite likely that Waipa Networks will struggle to pay for its investment and cry for help... Under TPPA a trans-national company would likely come in to our community as 'Saviour' with the $$$ and take it over. That we neither want nor need. I'd be asking has Waipa Networks, the private company got the cash to complete the work and come out debt-free.

I live in Hangatiki. I can see the Hangatiki Substation from my home. Intense upgrades have occurred at the substation in recent years. The plan for this "Te Awamutu Reinforcement Project" appears to have been planned much in advance. I suggest to those who have initiated the petition - especially local hapu/Tangata Whenua to invoke Article 2 of Te Tiriti O Waitangi and prepare Invoices for fees to the PRIVATE COMPANY , Waipa Networks for any and all works! I suggest the organisers of this petition request a Shedule of Fees from, the locally declared Sovereign group, Te Hapu o te Wakaminenga Wahi o Maniapoto. Kia Kaha.
