I may not be a citizen of Hong Kong, but after hearing from my local news about a consulting firm proposing for the removal of the tramway makes me really infuriated. I strongly believe that a country must retain heritage monuments and infrastructure which make them unique and not simply remove them for the sake of development.
You can IMPROVE or UPGRADE in order to meet up with the current standard and lifestyle.
NO TO REMOVAL OF TRAMWAYS!

I strongly oppose the suggestion to remove the trams from Central to Admiralty because:
- It is a very efficient way of travelling
- it is "green" running only on Electrical power not producing any pollution
- as approx. 2 cars take the same space as one tram waggon, 2 cars can only transport maximum 10 people but, the tram can easily carry 50 people
- the tram rails are also often used by cars, which congest the tram and blocking its efficient movement
- it is used by many people for short commute between a few stations vs. the MTR stations are more further apart
- the HK tram is an icon of Hong Kong, besides the peak tram and the star ferries probably one of the last, and as HK government does not manage to keep other heritage buildings it should be kept.
I hereby ask the government to declare the HK tram a class 1 heritage site and stop all car traffic between Western Market and Statue Square and turn that part of Des Voeux Road into a green walking zone, allowing delivery vans only at certain time in the morning and evening to deliver goods to shops and people.
During occupy protest the air clearly did improve in centrals because of less cars and the government has the unique opportunity to turn a part of the towns' concrete jungle into a liveable, people friendly area, allowing even for outdoor cafes, and by including a green concept for the old central market into this plan.
Thanks for your consideration.
