I am a small business owner and have lived in the county for over 35+ years. Costs have been increasing constantly. With all the talk about the income from new data centers in our county, l find it ironic that there is still not enough revenue to run things, and now in addition to business property taxes, we have to pay taxes on our gross income, even if we sustain a loss for the year. It truly defies common sense and makes the county anything but business friendly...

Both individuals and businesses are being taxed out of Stafford County. I am a life long resident, but my husband and I are seriously considering leaving because of the uncontrolled taxes and the amount of data centers being approved.

When I first came to Fredericksburg in 1977 to buy the optometric practice of Dr Martin Blatt I was told by the city I had to pay a tax on my gross receipts. Since I had just bought the business I had no idea what my gross receipts would be.. I was told it would be based on Dr Blatts receipts for the previous year. If I came in below that the next year there would be no refund. This is patently unfair in my opinion. I was very glad to move the practice to Stafford some years later.

We pay enough already. Taxes on gross receipts can cut out the profit for a small firm where rates and revenues have shrunk when working with clients.

When you continue to raise taxes you will lose your tax base. If you increase growth you will naturally have higher revenue streams, with out raising taxes.
