I believe phones should not be completely banned during school periods because they can be useful for learning, emergencies, and communication with parents. Instead of banning them, schools should teach students to use them responsibly and allow teachers to decide when phones can be used for educational purposes.

The phone ban is ridiculous and won't make kids anymore productive. If students don't want to do their work they're not going to, if they have a personal device or not. Schools should instead try to make the classes more engaging so the students might actually want to participate. When a teacher just gives out a worksheet or an assignment on google classroom, kids get tired of it. It's boring to do the same thing everyday. That's what schools should put their attention into.

This petition is important to me because even though phones may be a distraction, they are needed in our day and age. Phones can be used for emergencies, alternatives when students forget things at home, and they connect us with our classmates! This ban should be stopped and should not be brought any further.

Honestly, there is too much going on in the world for us not to have phones in HIGHSCHOOL. We are not two year old kids that don’t know how to behave…I understand that some people abuse using there phones but that does not mean to punish everybody. There have been too many school shootings for us not to have our phone. And honestly if yall preach that we should have our own voices then stop trying to place laws on teenagers who have no say.

I have medical issues and sometimes I need to contact my mother who’s a nurse. There’s been several instances where I’ve needed to contact her simply because the Newmanchester high school did not care. For example I sprained my ankle freshman year and when I told them it was sprained to maybe get some ice or call my mother to get me, the front desk lady and the nurse just said “ok” and did nothing. There’s front desk lady always has an attitude about something and is very unhelpful.

These young students have jobs, need to reach their parents, and safety if something happens they need to have their phone. The phone isn’t the issue kids would pay attention to school way more if school was about actually learning not just competing.
