It’s the heart of the village and a vital community asset. Someone paid too much for it and mismanaged it. Why should the government reward them by allowing conversion to residential when the previous owner was able to run it successfully for many years

If the local community wish to buy it to retain a pub and their offer is sufficient there is no moral reason to let the vendor sell it as a residence.

This is our wonderful local pub that we can walk to, and it has been a community hub for many years and it would be SUCH a shame to see it turned over to residential use , esp as nearby Donhead St Mary does not have a pub either.

Far too many historic pubs have been ignored by british heritage and our governments and been allowed to be closed , demolished or converted for other uses . These buildings are our history and in many cases a social meeting place where otherwise lonely people might miss out on socialising and making friends . This is just one Tavern that I happened across and fully intend to make a journey to sit in and meet a community who deserve to have a voice and a choice

The Forester was a great meeting place and social hub. Without a pub (and having no shop) the village has become just a collection of houses.

That the Forester as a pub and centre of the Donheads social community was within a short walk across two fields was a key reason for us to buy our cottage in Donhead St Mary 16 years ago and we used to use it very frequently. The Friday evening gatherings there for a drink when everyone came together was very special and much missed. I have pledged a significant contribution to help take The Forester into community ownership because of the pub's key amenity value for all of us living here.
