Here is a quote from Pope Francis:
"Sports in the community can be a great missionary tool, where the Church is close to every person to help them become better... I find there are three paths for young people: the path of education, the path of sports, and the path of work. If there are these three paths, I assure you there wouldn't be dependencies: no drugs, no alcohol!"
Unfortunately this decision is cutting off the path of Sports for our Youth.

I’m disappointed to learn of the decision to eliminate the youth basketball program at St. Peter’s. This program is not just about sports. It’s about teamwork, it is about health, building friendships that can last a lifetime. Removing it, takes away from the kids in the community. This program is what the parish should be investing in. I hope the decision can be reconsidered.

CYO Basketball is beyond just basketball but so much more for the children in Pacifica. I’m fortunate to have life long best friends from the program and we regular reference memories from our time playing. I hope my daughter gets the same chance to play one day!

Do the right thing here. As a parish with such a supportive community you should be ashamed of yourselves. Having worked with and supported numerous non-profit organizations it’s clear what is happening here. A blatant money grab due to severe financial mismanagement. Listen to the community, listen to your parishioners. Bring the program back. Be transparent and let the community of Pacifica do what they do best - support the children. If it’s too much for you then let community organizers help

Please save this program! I have some of my very best friends, friendships that have lasted 30+ years, because of the St. Peter’s basketball program. Some of my most treasured childhood memories and lifelong friendships came from being part of this program.
I want my son to have that same experience, to grow, make memories, build friendships, and hopefully carry them with him for years to come. That’s what makes this program so special.

I played for Good Shepherd basketball growing up but always enjoyed our games against St Peter’s. Had a lot of friends that played there too. It’s good for the kids to be active and playing
