Evidence from Wales shows that lower speeds reduced the risk of injury and death particularly to vulnerable road users. 20 mph speed limit will have the biggest impact on the most dangerous roads.

There are more and bigger cars, leading to frustration and rushing drivers, not to mention to distraction that comes with mobiles, and more gadgets in cars. At least on the inner streets there should be shame attached to speeding /mobile use, akin to drink driving.

I have children who cycle on these roads to get to school. I lived in London when it transitioned to 20mph and it was absolutely fine - 30mph saves you barely any time in a city - but 20mph saves lives. Maybe my children’s lives.

30mph is inappropriate for urban streets with parked cars. 20mph is appreciably safer, less intimidating and less noisy

The current piecemeal implementation of 20mph zones is confusing for everyone, and excludes roads where lower speeds are most needed (to improve actual and perceived safety for other road users). I urge SCC to implement a default 20mph speed limit across all urban areas, with any exceptions being very carefully considered.

The so-called greenest city ain't so safe for pedestrians and particularly children, with some of the worst KSIs on arterial roads, so this is an ideal soft-touch solution encouraging behavioural change.

20 mph limits is the start of making our cities and communities safer and more pleasant for everyone. They hugely improve suburban areas. Now lets roll them out across the entire city.

So many "main" roads are dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists - the people who shop and work on these roads. Dropping the speed limit would make such little difference to drivers, but a huge benefit for vulnerable road users.

Base policy on evidence: slower vehicles means safer streets; and little impact on overall vehicle journey times.
Only a very few main radial routes and the ring road might be exceptions to a general rule: "it's 20 unless you're clearly told otherwise."

The point is a 20 limit limits most drivers' speed even if they still speed, which some inevitably will.

It needs to feel safer to walk and cycle in Sheffield, this could relieve loads of congestion on the roads, and a 20mph limit more widely would save lives

We are driving on roads which are unsuitable for today's level of traffic. Cars parked by the roadside & on the pavement make the environment less manageable for cyclists, pedestrians & motorists & a lower speed helps to mitigate this. I find it easier to stick to a single speed limit, rather than navigating changing limits so 20 everywhere makes sense.

The traffic on Fitzwalter road is too fast for such a congested area, and I have seen 2 accidents in the past couple of years.
It's also quite frightening trying to cross the 5 way junction, which I have to do frequently.
