Decision Makers: Providence Public School Department

We are asking Nathan Bishop Middle School to return to the rotating schedule, because it helped make the school day feel more balanced and manageable for students.

Last year, we had a rotating schedule, and many of us understood it to be a structure that gave different classes a fairer rhythm across the week. It helped break up the day, keep learning moving, and gave students a better chance to stay focused. When a school day feels too repetitive, it can become harder to stay engaged and motivated. A rotating schedule can help with that by giving students variety and a better flow between classes.

Right now, the change away from that schedule is causing concern for students who feel the new setup is not working as well. We believe Nathan Bishop Middle School should listen to the people who live with the schedule every day: the students. A schedule shapes how we learn, how we manage our time, and how we move through the school day. When it works well, it supports learning. When it does not, it affects the whole school community.

We are calling on Nathan Bishop Middle School to bring back the rotating schedule and give students a school day that better supports learning, attention, and fairness. This is a simple change that could make a real difference in daily life at school.

Without the rotating bell schedule, we have math last and by that point we are all extremely tired and have a hard time focusing. While this is true no matter what, the rotating schedule gives us the opportunity to do good work in all of our classes, instead of just the first 3 and a half or so.

the rotating schedule allowed all teachers to see when we thrived in learning though-out today, now we have math last period every. single. day.

Rotating Schedules help people learn because some people might not learn at a certain time. If a student can’t learn during 3rd period of the day,at least he won’t be stuck struggling in that same class and he can catch up another day.this schedule not rotating is affecting kids since everyday is a repetition, and no mix into teh day to enjoy.

I don't want to have the classes the same everyday, especially since I have gym first period every other day.

because gym first period is tiring and we are hyped up period 6, making us able to do less work

I think we should bring back the rotating schedule because it made school less repetitive and helped students stay focused and engaged. Having different classes at different times made the day feel more balanced, and many students preferred the variety of the rotating schedule.
