I am shocked that Governor Whitmer has thus far declined to release this prisoner, who seems to be in jail for defending herself against a violent and aggressive former intimate partner. A sentence of imprisonment without parole is so very rare when men are charged with rape or intimate partner violence. Women have to have the right to defend themselves because so very few others will do so. Please Governor, release Susan Brown.

a crime was committed by someone who immediately faced consequences for his hate and violence towards a woman and her unborn child. 23 years is prison for defense of self and her child is 23 years too long. this individual has been an incredible example of a human being throughout her time in the Michigan carceral system, imagine how much more of an incredible community member she would be with her freedom!
