We, the undersigned students of KTU, respectfully request the University authorities to reconsider the implementation of the yearback policy under the present academic circumstances. We believe that enforcing this policy at this stage will adversely affect a large number of students and have serious academic, financial, and psychological consequences.
Key Concerns
1. Lack of Prior Awareness and Communication
- Many students were not adequately informed about the yearback requirements in advance.
- Clear notifications regarding the credit requirements and consequences were not communicated before the completion of the semester.
- Even several academic coordinators and student advisors were unable to provide clear information regarding the implementation of the policy.
2. Challenges Faced Under the New 2024 Scheme
- Students are still adapting to the newly introduced 2024 syllabus, examination pattern, and evaluation system.
- Various academic and administrative issues have been observed during the initial implementation of the scheme.
- The absence of a low-pass provision has resulted in many students failing subjects despite missing the pass mark by only a few marks.
3. Delay in Results and Revaluation Processes
- Supply examination results are often published very late, sometimes only towards the end of subsequent semesters.
- Revaluation results are not released on time, creating uncertainty for students.
- Many students are unable to register for supplementary examinations while waiting for revaluation outcomes, which affects their ability to earn the required credits.
4. Students Losing a Year for a Small Credit Deficit
- A significant number of students are at risk of yearback due to a shortage of only one or a few credits.
- Losing an entire academic year for such a minor deficit appears disproportionate and unfair.
5. Medical and Genuine Personal Circumstances
- Some students were unable to attend examinations due to verified medical reasons and other unavoidable circumstances.
- These students should be provided reasonable consideration and support instead of being subjected to yearback.
6. Delayed Start of Initial Semesters
- Classes for the first-year batches commenced later than usual, reducing the effective academic preparation time available to students.
7. Concerns Regarding Evaluation
- Numerous students have reported inconsistencies and inaccuracies in answer script evaluation.
- Delays in revaluation results further prevent deserving students from clearing subjects in time.
Request for Student-Friendly Consideration
We humbly request the University to:
- Withdraw or temporarily suspend the yearback policy for the affected batches.
- Consider a temporary relaxation in credit requirements during the transition to the new scheme.
- Address issues related to evaluation and revaluation timelines.
- Provide special consideration for students facing medical or other genuine difficulties.
Conclusion
The enforcement of the yearback policy under the current circumstances may result in students losing valuable academic time, affecting placements, internships, higher education opportunities, and future career prospects. It may also place additional financial and mental stress on students and their families.
We sincerely hope that the University will take a compassionate and student-centric approach and provide appropriate relief to those affected.

I didn't known about year back until they published . why they tell about year back at the last moment if they published earlier most of the students might tried to clear all their papers
