We, members and supporters of the Kurdish community in Sydney and across Australia, respectfully ask the relevant cinema and film rights holders to make No Paradise If You Are Killed by a Woman available for a special theatrical screening in Sydney.
Directed by Halkawt Mustafa and starring Avan Jamal, this internationally recognised Kurdish film tells the story of Vyan, a Kurdish female sniper who returns to Mosul to rescue her younger sister from ISIS. It brings forward powerful themes of family, courage, war, resilience, and the experiences of Kurdish women. Its international festival recognition and selection as Iraq’s official submission for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film have already created strong interest among Kurdish audiences and film lovers more broadly.
A Sydney screening would give Kurdish Australians and the wider Australian community the chance to experience this film on the big screen. It would also help celebrate Kurdish cinema and storytelling, share Kurdish experiences with a wider audience, and support greater cultural diversity in Australian cinema. For many in our community, this is more than a film screening. It is a chance to see an important Kurdish-language story presented where it can be watched, discussed, and appreciated together.
By signing this petition, we are showing our interest in attending a Sydney screening of No Paradise If You Are Killed by a Woman and asking cinemas and distributors to listen to that community support. We respectfully urge them to consider making this screening possible in Sydney.
Because I am a Kurdish, I want to watch the movie how Kurdish girls brave fight with a Isis we fight for our freedom
