We ask for the right to release the original Meet the Parents and for Universal Studios to stop burying the film that was made in 1992. The original version was created and sold to Universal Studios, and since then it has been kept from the public while a remake moved forward. That leaves the people who made the first film, and the audience that might want to see it, cut off from something that already exists and deserves to be seen.
A film should not disappear just because a studio chose a different version to promote. The original Meet the Parents is part of the work that was made, and it should not be hidden away forever. Keeping it out of view does not protect the story, the audience, or the history of the project. It only keeps people from seeing the film as it was first created.
We believe the original film should be released so the work can stand on its own. The person who made it Greg Glienna shoukd have the right to share it with the world. Universal Studios should allow the original Meet the Parents to be made available instead of buried any longer.
We support the release of the original Meet the Parents and ask that the right to release it be recognized now.

I saw this movie first at the Art Institute in Chicago and a second time at the 3 Penny. Very very funny and better than the remake.
I graduated from high school with Greg Glienna and believe he deserves to have access to his creation along with everyone else.
I saw this movie at the Music Box in Chicago when it was first released. A wonderful indie film from a young filmmaker. Would love to see it again. Also, it shouldn’t take anything away from the blockbuster franchise that it inspired.
Why do you think?! It's better... ... um, better to show how great the Deniro version is?

No reason to keep this movie under wraps. A shoestring indie from 37 years ago is no threat to the studio franchise. In fact, it would spur interest in the series and make the studio look magnanimous, which would help their brand tremonmdously.
