This petition is to ask Everton Ladies to allow a charity match to be held at Goodison Park on Friday 27th November 2026, in memory of the late, great Gary Speed.
On Sunday 27th November 2011, the football community was shocked and shaken by the sudden and unexpected passing of Gary Speed. He was a phenomenal talent and a true gentleman, loved and respected by fans everywhere.
From his early days at Leeds United to the honour of managing the Wales national team, he gave everything he had for club and country. He remains one of Wales’ true legends and, fifteen years on, this event would be a fitting way to pay tribute to his life and legacy at one of the stadiums he lit up during his career.
A Friday night match would give fans the chance to come together from across the United Kingdom and further afield to remember him properly. It would also be practical to arrange at short notice, especially as Preston North End were allowed to play Huddersfield Town at Goodison Park in the League Cup earlier this season.
There is currently no Everton Ladies match scheduled for that date, so there is no fixture clash. With the right negotiations and agreements, the stadium could be made available for this special occasion.
The teams taking part could be made up of free agents, possibly from the PFA with two of their teams playing against each other, creating a memorable evening of football, tribute, and community spirit.
Let us make this happen in memory of Gary Speed.
This is a great idea to remember Gary Speed and you'll also (hopefully) be helping players potentially find new clubs. Imagine if Dele Alli, Wilfred Zaha, Raheem Sterling, Adam Webster etc. all agreed to take part - you'd have two decent sides and probably enough players to play a half each. Also if it's for the official Gary Speed charity then people will definitely dig deep! I'll definitely be there if it happens.
