The Russian legal system is a bad joke, designed to suppress dissent rather than protect the population. Torture of political prisoners is a commonplace occurrence in Putin's Russia. The accusations against Misha Verbitsky are purely political in character, and should be summarily discregarded as such.

It was an honour to meet him in person at the prestigious Gökova Geometry/ Topology Conference about 10 years ago.
